28 May 1795: Richard married Nancy Davis in Mercer Co., Ky. [He would h ave only been 13?] There was also a Richard listed in the 1795 Tax Lis t for Mercer Co. He would have to have been over 21 to be taxed. Was t here perhaps another (older) Richard who died before 1810? If so, then w ho were the children 10-15 living with this Richard in 1810? Siblings?





In the 1810 Census, Mercer Co., Ky., Richard (age 26-45) and Nancy (age 2 6-45) had 6 children under 16: 2 males 10-15, 3 males under 10 and 1 f emale under 10 living with him.

c. 1812: Richard married Rebecca Lowry in Mercer Co., Ky.
13 May 1818: Richard was the bondsman for the marriage of James Lowry a nd Nancy Huff. (dau?, neice?, sis?)

In 1820 he was still under 45, Rebecca was also under 45, and he had 1 m ale 10-15, 1 male under 10, and 2 females under 10. (Rebecca died in 1 823)

15 Jun 1823: Richard married Elizabeth Parks in Estill Co., Ky.

In 1830 he was listed as aged 40-50. Elizabeth was 30-40, and they had t he following children: 2 females 15-19, a male and a female 10-14, 2 m ales 5-9, and 2males and a female under 5.

4 Jan 1836: Richard married Ruth Wickersham in Mercer Co., Ky. (Ruth wa s the dau of Sampson Wickersham Sr., and the widow of Joseph Kirkland)

In 1840 he had no spouse (Elizabeth had died)(Where was Ruth? Also dead ?). He was 50-60, with 6 children under 20 living with him: 1 male 15 -19, a male and a female 10-14, 2 males 5-9, and 1 female under 5.

Ruth Wickersham Kirkland Huff died before 1850 ... possibly before 1840





In 1850 he was listed on page 354 of the Mercer Co. Census. He was 68, b . in Virginia. Living with him were Thomas Huff - age 21, Richard Huff - a ge 20, Rebecca Huff - age 25 (dau, or dau-in-law?) plus Elizabeth Huff, a ge 8 (Rebecca's dau?)

In 1860 he was listed as Richard Sr., living next door to Richard Jr. H e was 77 years old. Also living with him were a Mary Huff, age 65 (new w ife?), a Percilla Huff - age 23 (listed in 1850 with Priscilla Isom and E lizabeth Wickersham ... was she the dau of Ruth Wickersham Huff?), and T homas A. Huff, age 30.

In 1870 he was living with his son Richard Jr. He was listed as 87 yea rs old, having been born in Va.

Harrodsburg Herald newspaper clipping: "Col. Richard Huff, age 88, die d at his residence in Mercer Co. Sept. 6, 1869. He was a native of Vir ginia and came to Mercer County in 1786. His father fought for Indepen dence in 1776 and Richard fought in the War of 1812."

Notice that even though his obituary states that he died in September o f 1869, he was listed in June of 1870 (age 87) as living with his son. U nfortunately, I couldn't find Richard in the 1870 Mortality Schedule, a s would be expected if he died in the 12 months prior to the 1870 censu s.
