  • Note:
All documents I have seen give his death about 1926, but I think it may have been in the great flood of 1927, as my mother told me that he (as a minister) was visiting someone and was returning by bus during a horrific rain/flood period of time. The bridge the bus was traveling over collapsed, and everybody on the buy were swept away and drowned. (Not sure of source)

LORANCE, GEORGE M (1900 U.S. Census) TENNESSEE , CANNON, 5-DIST Age: 46, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: TN Series: T623 Roll: 1560 Page: 50

From RootsWeb World Connect database of Michael Pitzer:
After George's second wife died, he sold his farm in Rutherford County and started to move to Alabama, where I believe some of his brothers and sisters were. Along the way he was robbed of the money from his farm and killed. His body was dumped into the Tennessee River in Alabama, where it was later found. George Marshall was a Methodist Minister.
